(Stillwater, Okla. – May 10, 2011) Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center honors its meat plant student employees through a Student of the Month program.

The FAPC started the Meat Pilot Plant Student of the Month program in March 2009 to encourage a competition among student workers in the pilot plant that focuses on being safety and quality conscious, said Kyle Flynn, FAPC meat plant manager.

“We wanted to create a reward-based program for students to follow rules with positive reinforcement instead of negative reinforcement,” Flynn said. “It is working well because the students are taking the program seriously and working hard to create a working environment that is safe and productive.”

Seven students were recognized for the 2010-2011 school year for their work ethic in the pilot plant. The Student of the Month workers included Kaleb Smith, Emily Gaulden, Zach Robertson, Kelsey Marsh, Heather Robertson, Byron Jones and Trent Pribil.

September and April winner and resident of Woodward, Okla., Kaleb Smith, is working toward a degree in animal science.

October winner, Emily Gaulden, a secondary education major with an emphasis in Spanish, is from Denham Springs, La.

November winner, Zach Robertson, a native of Bland, Mo., is pursuing a degree in food science with an industry option.

December winner, Kelsey Marsh from Buffalo Gap, Texas, is an animal science major with a minor in accounting.

January winner, Heather Robertson from Cimarron, Kan., is studying agricultural leadership.

February winner, Byron Jones Medford, Okla., is an agricultural economics major.

March winner, Trent Pribil from Edmond, Okla., is pursuing a degree in natural resources ecology and management.

In addition to bragging rights for that month, the Student of the Month gets a $50 bonus and the individuals name and picture on a plaque hanging in the FAPC.

“We are proud of all the winners of the Meat Pilot Plant Student of the Month,” said Roy Escoubas, FAPC director. “These students provide a great example for other students working in the meat pilot plant and the FAPC as a whole.”
