STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association has announced its Outstanding Seniors for 2004. Among those named was Jamie Johnson. She will graduate this May with a bachelor's degree in animal science with a food science option.

For the past four years, Johnson has been working for Stanley E. Gilliland, food microbiologist for the Oklahoma Food and Agricultural Products Research and Technology Center as an assistant in Gilliland’s microbiology lab.

“I really enjoyed the great experience of working in the lab because it provided hands-on experience,” said Johnson. “I learned a lot that I will be able to apply to my new job.”

Johnson will be working for Schreiber Foods, Inc. as a production team advisor at the Carthage, Mo. Branch after graduation.

“Dr. Gilliland looks out for his students," said Johnson. He pushes and challenges us and provides us with opportunities."

A native of Wyandotte, Okla., Johnson has been a leader on both the college and university levels. She served as a College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Agricultural Ambassador for two years. She is also a member of the Food Industry Club and a Career Liaison. On the university level, Johnson participated in Mortar Board as the Tapping and Initiation co-chair.

“Jamie is a hard worker, dedicated student and a leader for both the College of Agriculture and the university,” said Gilliland. “ She will be missed in the lab, but we wish her luck with her future endeavors.”

Johnson also volunteered outside of OSU. She was involved in Meals on Wheels, Into the Streets and Big Event, and she tutored middle school students as a member of P.O.T.T.E.R.S.

Other honors Johnson has received include the Outstanding Intern for Schreiber Foods, Inc. Award, OSU Top Five Homecoming Royalty, CASNR Dean Fred LeCrone Outstanding Senior and Animal Science Senior Merit Award.
