(STILLWATER, Okla. – Sept. 27, 2010) An agricultural industry leader has been appointed to the Industry Advisory Committee of Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center.

OSU’s vice president, dean and director of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources appointed Dick Davis, administrator of the Agri-Services Division of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, to the committee.

“We are pleased to have Mr. Davis on our Industry Advisory Committee,” said Roy Escoubas, FAPC director. “The FAPC will benefit from his experience and leadership in the food and agricultural industries.”

As administrator of the Agri-Services Division of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Davis direct the operations for production and meat processing to meet 100 percent of the meat, milk and egg needs for the entire Oklahoma prison system.

His responsibilities include a 26,000-acre operation, 4,000 head of beef cattle; 400 head of dairy cows; grass, alfalfa hay and small grains production to support the production of the beef and dairy operation; a livestock harvest and meat processing facility; vegetable production of potatoes, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, carrots and pinto beans; and a food processing facility, all sufficient to assist in feeding 63,000 meals daily.

Davis said he is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with the FAPC and other members of the committee.

“I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to be associated with the expertise and knowledge concentrated at the Food & Agricultural Products Center,” Davis said. “My years of experience in agricultural production, food processing and marketing of agricultural products should help me represent production agriculture on this committee.”

Before accepting his current position in 1983, Davis was an agricultural education instructor at Billings High School and Cyril High School and also served multiple tours of duty in the United States Army.

Davis is a member of several associations that he believes will help him in his new role as a member of the Industry Advisory Committee.

Some of these associations include Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, National Association of Institutional Agribusiness, Oklahoma Beef Incorporated, Oklahoma Texas Meat Processors Association and Masonic Lodge.

Davis also has received numerous awards, including Outstanding Student Teacher from OSU’s department of agricultural education, FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree from both the Cyril FFA Chapter and Cashion FFA Chapter, Recognition Award from OSU’s department of animal science and the Commercial Producer Roll of Excellence from the Beef Improvement Federation.

Davis received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education and science from OSU in Stillwater, Okla., in 1976.

Davis resides in Cashion, Okla., with his wife, Kay. They have three sons and daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.

“Mr. Davis’s extensive agricultural production and science knowledge and experience, coupled with his leadership and engaging personality has allowed the Agri-Services Division to continue, year-after-year, to meet the challenges of tight budgets, increasing inmate populations and the need to use inmate labor in this extremely diverse agricultural production operation,” Escoubas said. “We are looking forward to him contributing to the committee as he will definitely be an asset.”
