Undergraduate Research

OSU and the Ferguson College of Agriculture have long been leaders in providing research opportunities to undergraduate students. Through a combination of Freshman Research Scholars, Ferguson College of Agriculture/OAES Undergraduate Research Scholars, Wentz Research Grants, Niblack Research Scholars, individual scientists and departmental support, excellent opportunities exist for students to take part in the creation of new knowledge. For a comprehensive view of undergraduate research opportunities at OSU visit the OSU Scholar Development and Undergraduate Research website.

Meet Ferguson College of Agriculture student Sage Becker. Growing up with a rare genetic bone marrow failure disorder, Sage took a personal interest in genetics research. That, along with being a fifth generation farmer, led her to Oklahoma State University to study animal science and become the college's first Barry S. Goldwater Research Scholar.

"Working in the lab throughout my time here as OSU has solidified my interests. OSU has a tremendous undergraduate research experience and opportunities for undergraduates to do research, and it's the main reason why I chose to come here in addition to the Cowboy Family and the atmosphere here." — Sage Becker

Emma Woolard's undergraduate research project is proof that not all research is done in a lab. Her research in agribusiness at Our Daily Bread, Stillwater's local food bank, has been a great opportunity for her to make a difference in her community and see why OSU research matters.

"We learn things in undergraduate so we can make the world a better place. When Emma does research at Our Daily Bread, she meets the people we're trying to help. She sees the context in which those people need help, and she sees the real reason of why we have agricultural economics." — Dr. Bailey Norwood, professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics
