The Master of International Agriculture Degree Program (MIAP) in Oklahoma State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, will host Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe as a guest speaker Oct. 15, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 408/Case Study One at the OSU Student Union.

Sister Rosemary was chosen as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2014 for her work with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Juba, South Sudan, and the Saint Monica’s Tailoring School and Daycare.

“When I visited Sister Rosemary’s orphanage in Uganda last summer, I was amazed at the level of impact that she has had in changing the lives of the children who are brought to St. Monica’s facilities,” said Shida Henneberry, MIAP director. “We are so fortunate to have her as part of our Master of International Agriculture Seminar Series.”

MIAP is working with Pros for Africa, a non-profit organization in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to bring Sister Rosemary to OSU.

Pros for Africa connects professionals of all fields to share what they know, have and create with the children of Africa.

According to Pros for Africa, for the last 30 years, Sister Rosemary has served in areas devastated by civil war in northern Uganda and South Sudan. Since 2002, she has enrolled more than 2,000 girls, some of whom who had been previously abducted by the LRA or abandoned by their families.

Sister Rosemary works with the community of women teaching them to become self-reliant, change agents for peace and prosperity. Sister Rosemary teaches them to make their own clothes, grow their own food and learn a valuable trade.

MIAP’s Speaker series features outside speakers, faculty, staff, alumni and current students presenting on international agriculture topics. The series is open to the public and free. For more information about the series or the Master of International Degree Program visit miap.okstate.edu.
