STILLWATER, Okla. –Megan DeVuyst from Morrison, Oklahoma, recently was named Oklahoma State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Louis and Betty Gardner 2018 CASNR Outstanding Senior. DeVuyst was recognized at the annual CASNR Scholarship and Awards banquet March 29, where the college awarded more than $330,000 in scholarships and recognized student, faculty and alumni leaders.

DeVuyst is an agribusiness major with a minor in finance. She is a 2014 graduate of Morrison, High School and is the daughter of Eric and Cheryl DeVuyst.

The Louis and Betty Gardner Outstanding Senior Award is the highest honor a CASNR senior may receive from the college. The Outstanding Senior receives a bronze sculpture and a scholarship, and also represents CASNR by wearing an orange cap and gown and serving as the college gonfalon carrier at commencement. The award is supported by an endowment established by Brent and Kent Gardner, both previous recipients of the award, in honor of their parents, Louis and Betty.

DeVuyst’s collegiate activities include serving as the president of the CASNR Ambassador team and CASNR Student Council vice president of student affairs during the 2017-2018 school year. DeVuyst also conducted research focusing on USDA beef quality grades with Jayson Lusk.

“The CASNR Family developed my love for agriculture and prepared me personally and professionally to serve others and help them find their niche in agriculture and natural resources,” DeVuyst said.

Megan was most recently selected as an OSU Senior of Significance and Outstanding Senior. She also earned the title of 2015 Top Ten Freshmen Woman and 2017 Homecoming Royalty Top 5 Candidate. In 2016, she received the Student Philanthropist of the Year award from the Women for OSU of the OSU Foundation, along with the Torch Bearer Leader Award from American Farmers and Ranchers. Her hard work in the classroom is evidenced by her 4.0 GPA — an accomplishment that has earned her a place on the President’s Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters.

“Megan is such a special person. Her commitment to service and her ability to lead by example and bring out the best in others has made a lasting impact on our college,” said Cynda Clary, CASNR associate dean of academic programs. “She is an intelligent, organized and caring individual and is an ideal representation of how far a student can go through hard work and dedication to her college career.”
