STILLWATER, Okla. – I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

The Oklahoma State University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources will kick off the newly created CASNR Transfer Network with an ice cream social, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. in Agricultural Hall 101.

CASNR Transfer Network is a student organization the Success Coaches for Outstanding Transfers (SCOUTs) established to provide social involvement and camaraderie for transfer students within the college.

The student organization will meet the fourth Monday of each month and feature different programs at every meeting. Along with ice cream, the first meeting will serve as a “career fair prep night.”

Amy Gazaway, CASNR student development coordinator, said this will be beneficial to transfer students who are interested in finding internships and summer jobs during the CASNR Career Fair Sept. 9.

Career Liaisons, student leaders in CASNR who assist students with career-related questions, will lead a program on resume development, as well as offer resume critiques that night. All transfer students are encouraged to bring their resumes.

The August meeting also will include a T-shirt exchange. Transfer students who bring a shirt from their previous institution can trade it in for a $5 coupon which may be used to purchase a new OSU CASNR shirt to represent this new chapter of their lives.

Gazway said the CASNR Transfer Network will provide incoming transfer students an initial way to get involved in the college.

“We want the CASNR Transfer Network to be a place where transfer students can have leadership development opportunities through the programs they participate in at meetings, have fun with each other and make connections with current transfer students who have been in their shoes,” Gazaway said. “We hope it serves as a connection to other student organizations as well.”

Mark Bradley Battershell, plant and soil science senior, Calvin, Oklahoma, serves as a SCOUT. He said he is looking forward to seeing the benefits students will gain from this organization.

“We want students to come out to the first meeting and then continue to be involved in CASNR Transfer Network so they can be ahead of the game, instead of feeling behind,” Battershell said. “It will help them know what to expect and also give them instant friends.”
