The Oklahoma State University Life Science Freshman Research Scholars (LSFRS) Program has announced its 2015-16 cohort. Thirty-four students were selected from many qualified applications, based on their interest, enthusiasm, and accomplishments. Of the 34 scholars, 15 are enrolled in the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The students were selected from many qualified applications, based on their interest, enthusiasm, and accomplishments. They will conduct life science research as freshmen under the mentorship of OSU faculty members.

During the fall the students will be guided in selecting mentors and learn about conducting and communicating about their research from Dr. John Stewart, a post-doctoral fellow with the project, and Ms. Coral Rewasiewicz, the program coordinator. They will then conduct research over the course of the year and present their work in the spring.

“We have been so delighted with the caliber and diversity of our applicants and scholars,” Rewasiewicz noted. “We look forward to having this year’s talented group continue to produce the types of excellent research as did our first cohort.”

“It was a pleasure to work with last year’s scholars, to see the enthusiasm, and to see what they accomplished,” Stewart added. “I am excited to start working with this great group.”

The LSFRS Program is made possible through a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to Oklahoma State University through the Science Education Program. Funding from this grant allows life science departments to design and create new ways of integrating authentic research experiences for undergraduates.
