From 1953 to 1955 he served in the United States Artillery before earning his MBA from Stanford University in 1957.

Drummond joined the United Missouri Bank of Kansas City in 1957 as an assistant vice president. He went on to serve as chairman and principal owner of Cleveland Bank in Cleveland, Okla., where he served for 50 years. He was also a member of the Ponca City Federal Land Bank for 37 years.

In addition to being an independent oil producer, Drummond is best known as the owner and operator of the Fred G. Drummond Ranches in Osage County. The Drummond family homestead in the Pawhuska area has existed since the 1860s.

Drummond has served as president of numerous boards including the Osage County Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, the NCBA tax committee, Pawhuska Rotary Club, Pawhuska Hospital Board of Incorporators, Pawhuska Library Board, the Oklahoma chapter of the Nature Conservancy and the Grand River Dam Authority. Drummond and his wife, Janet, are the longest consecutive annual donors in OSU’s history and have impacted approximately 40 areas on campus. The Drummond Residence Hall at OSU is named after Frederick’s father, Frederick G. Drummond, who also served as the OSU Alumni Association president in 1923.
