STILLWATER, Okla. - Seventeen agricultural education seniors from Oklahoma State University recently began a 12-week student teaching program at 15 agricultural education programs across Oklahoma and Ohio.
The student teaching program allows agricultural education collegiate students to bridge the gap between teaching theory and practice. During the student teaching experience, student teachers will teach classes, be involved with FFA activities, and assist with supervised agricultural education experiences under the guidance of cooperating teachers from each host school.
“Student teaching is the culminating experience for preparing to become an agricultural educator,” Jon Ramsey, OSU assistant professor of agricultural education and director of student teaching, said. “The time students spend in their cooperating centers provides real time experiences that are an important component of the induction of students into the teaching profession."
Upon completion of the student teaching experience, the student teachers will return to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where they will earn Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural Science and Natural Resources with a major in Agricultural Education.
