What is the CASNR Student Council?

CASNR Student Council is the student government of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The executive branch is made up of 11 executives and the representative branch of CASNR Student Council is made up of representatives selected by each of the clubs/organizations within the college. The CASNR Student Council executives coordinate many of the club/organization activities throughout the year.

What do Freshmen and Transfer Representatives do?

Freshmen and Transfer Representatives are selected to help coordinate all CASNR council sponsored activities. They attend all of the executive meetings as well as CASNR Student Full Council meetings. They shadow under an executive as an intern in order to learn the roles of that position firsthand. Some of the activities that they participate in include CASNR Roundup, homecoming activities, CASNR Week, and the CASNR Scholarship Banquet. Freshmen and Transfer Representatives learn directly about the CASNR Student Council and how it operates throughout the school year.

Who is eligible to become a Freshman or Transfer Representative in the CASNR Student Council?

Any incoming freshmen enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University or any student transferring to the CASNR from another university is eligible to apply.

How many are selected for Freshmen and Transfer Council and what is the process?

Twelve to fifteen representatives are selected. There are at least two freshmen and two transfer representatives selected. The selection committee has the discretion of selecting the final number of each. A list of finalists is selected from this application. Those finalists are then interviewed. The representatives are chosen from those interviews. All applicants will be notified by email or phone as to whether or not they have been selected for an interview on the evening of Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Those selected will then sign up for an interview time via emailed sign up link. Interviews are set to occur Sept. 11th and 12th.

What would be required of me if selected to serve on Freshmen and Transfer Council?

If chosen to become a freshman or transfer representative, you are expected to attend bi-monthly CASNR Student Full Council meetings, in addition to weekly executive meetings. We also expect you to be ready to take on or assist executives in planning and running various activities and programs that the CASNR Student Council coordinates. If you are selected and fail to regularly attend meetings or be actively involved with the council you will be dismissed from the Council. We understand that there are exceptions to this rule.
