Inspired by science? Turn that inspiration into works of art for Oklahoma State University Research Week 2015.

OSU students are invited to submit original artwork that embodies the role of artists in communicating the meaning of science to the general public. Entries will be judged with winners announced during Research Week 2015, Feb. 16-20. A total of $5,000 is available for winning entries and honorable mentions.

The competition is open to any OSU student, graduate or undergraduate, who will be enrolled for the spring 2015 semester. Artistic media includes photography, painting, wall-relief, drawings or printmaking (digital, etching, etc.) and entries can be no larger than 5 feet square and 5 inches thick. Art must be the student’s original work and be ready for hanging or installation. Entries must include a brief statement (100 words or less) describing how the artwork relates to the theme of “science.” Students may enter up to three works.

The deadline for entries to be delivered to the Visual Resources Library, 106 Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts, is at noon on Jan. 22.

Prize money will purchase winning works and award honorable mentions. Purchased art becomes part of the OSU Permanent Collection and will be displayed in the Henry Bellmon Research Center. Winning artists and those receiving honorable mentions will be recognized at the Research Gala Feb. 17.
