OSU UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH GRANT

Wentz Research Grants | $4,500
• Each semester, undergraduates are awarded $4,500 Wentz Research Grants to conduct independent research under the guidance of a faculty mentor in ANY MAJOR.
Purdie Research Grants | $10,000
• Additionally, Wentz Research Grant applicants with a major OR minor in Chemistry, Physics or Geology proposing projects with faculty in those departments will be considered for a $10,000 Purdie Research Grant in lieu of the Wentz Research Grant award.

Student Eligibility Requirements
• undergraduate at OSU-Stillwater or Tulsa
• completed 12 credit hours at OSU-Stillwater or Tulsa
• 3.00 minimum grade-point-average
NOTE: Students must meet these minimum eligibility requirements at the time of application and for the duration of the award year. Graduate students, those in 3-2 programs, or in Veterinary Medicine are NOT eligible to apply. Also, only one Wentz/Purdie OR Niblack Research Grant per year, per student is allowed.
Faculty Mentor Requirement
To receive a Wentz/Purdie Research Grant, you must arrange a faculty member to supervise your project. ONLY TENURED OR TENURE-TRACK FACULTY at the OSU-Stillwater or Tulsa campuses are eligible to mentor Wentz projects.
Proposal Guidelines
Submit an original research proposal that...
• was conceived and written by you (the student)
• achieves results in award year (fall and spring)
• explains the what (the question your project attempts to answer), how (the strategy you'll employ to answer the question), why (the reason an answer is needed to your question and how your results will answer it)
• 1 single-spaced page in 10+ point font, including figures (diagrams, graphs/charts, images, etc.) and references.
NOTE: MUST NOT INCLUDE PERSONAL INFORMATION, such as the student's, mentor's, graduate assistant's, research team's or lab's name, to ensure the integrity of the blind review process.
Proposal Review Criteria
• Originality and Creativity | demonstrates originality of thought and creativity in approach and project design
• Context | results and objectives are clearly positioned within the "bigger picture" of the disciplinary frame or wider context
• Scale and Scope | achieves meaningful results in award year (fall and spring), including a timeline of activities
• Methodology and Strategy | clearly explains the research methodology and/or strategy to achieve results
• Resources | makes thoughtful, efficient use of resources
• Style and Grammar | written in jargon-free language free of grammatical errors and is broadly understandable
