Melissa Mourer’s hometown may have a familiar ring to it, but chances are, you’ve never heard of it. A native of Sutton, Nebraska, Mourer was destined to be an OSU Cowboy as the famed coach Eddie Sutton was given a key to the city when OSU was in town to play basketball. And, as they say, the rest is history.
That history for Mourer includes a bachelor’s degree from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources in agricultural communications and 10 years of working at the Alumni Association. Then in 2014, she began making history of her own by hopping on board with agricultural communications services in a position the division hadn’t seen in more than two decades.
As the marketing and communications manager for CASNR, Mourer uses the analogy of spinning plates to describe her day-to-day activity. This is a good thing for her as she utilizes many of her communications and leadership skills acquired over her academic and professional career.
She and her team support the academic programming with communications needs concerning recruitment, career development, student programming, alumni relations and are responsible for the successful marketing and promotion of CASNR milestones such as the Massive Open Online Course and the Cowboy Stampede.
